This is another great little IXUS. I’ve had three now over the years and have not been disappointed with any of them. This one now has face recognition as well as a host of other things that were undreamed of only a couple of years ago. Dead easy to download and has a great battery life too.
Oh, and the best bit is that is that it has a viewfinder as well as an lcd screen. Just remember that when you’re trying to take pictures on holiday in bright sunshine and can’t see antything on your camera lcd screen, you just use the viewfinder instead with the IXUS 80 IS. Simple.

I bought this camera a month ago and used during recent holiday to Switzerland. This takes excellent picture even from running train in auto mode and very handy. I am really pleased with this product!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a friend dropped my Sony DSC-W80 on the floor, it took me ages to find a replacement. After weeks of investigative work, trials, I chose the Canon IXUS 80 IS (image stabilisation). In the running were more expensive(!) cameras from Sony, Panasonic and Nikon.
The order was placed through this site, included free delivery and turned up quicker than I expected.
I’ve now played with the IXUS 80 IS for a few days now and I can report that the battery life is very good (probably a match for the Sony). The picture quality on any MP setting is excellent. I can’t tell if there is any purple fringing with this camera (even with zoom) at all and even if you keep the picutres at max 8MP with minimal zoom you can easily edit out and still retain near perfect pictures anyway.
I’d say this camera is better than the Sony (just) for auto work, as the Sony had loads of manual settings. With the Canon you have to find them to use them.
For those that do party shots, pub shots, night shots - this is one excellent camera. Even in complete darkness shots you can prime the target by depressing the shoot button slightly (a redish light will appear to allow the auto focus to work) - then simply despress the button all the way to take the shot. Really impressive and much better than the Sony.
For me shutter times day or night - - are really important. I like to be able to power up, aim at my target and depress the shutter button. Picure taken. If I’m honest I couldn’t rely on the Sony for this - - but I am with the Canon.
Of course you could spend a few more pounds and get a 10mp or 14.7mp panny DMC150 camera but for now - for all round abilty this is hard to beat. And it’s cheap as chips and for Canon to be selling them at this price it’s a steal.

Can’t really speak highly enough of this piece of kit. Been wanting a new camera for a while and when I saw this one for this price, couldn’t order it fast enough. Great size, superb quality pics, fantastic features. For a small camera to use on your hols, family event and stuff look no further.

8.0 Megapixels

Motion Detection Technology / High ISO/IS
Canon’s Motion Detection Technology uses several methods to detect camera and subject movement and sets exposure accordingly. The brightness of subject and background, movement of the subject (based on comparison of frames over time) Face Detection information and camera shake information from the optical Image Stabilizer (IS) gyros are all taken into account. Where motion is detected the camera automatically selects the appropriate ISO level to achieve a shot with minimal noise and zero blur.
Optical Image Stabilizer
Any slight shake while hand-holding a camera can cause blurred photos. Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology ensures crisp, clear images by detecting and correcting this camera shake. The camera is able to microscopically adjust its own lens with absolute accuracy up to 4,000 times every second, so the image you see is the image you capture. Image Stabilizer is especially useful at full zoom, which exaggerates camera movements, and in low-light settings that call for slower shutter speeds.
DIGIC III

Red Eye Correction

Face Detection Technology

Optical Viewfinder
The viewfinder can be used to conserve power by turning the LCD monitor off while shooting. Use the LCD monitor to compose close-ups in macro mode since images composed with the viewfinder may be off-center.
iSAPS
Like a built-in photographer’s assistant, iSAPS is determining the optimal settings for each image even before you take a shot. It analyses the scene using PhotoSpace – an in-camera library of photographic data about the way people take pictures. It then controls the exposure, focus and white balance to ensure you get the best from every shot.
